  • You are so completely wrong! The vanilla was the best flavor. No one I know ever liked the chocolate, then again, I only know freaks. I say was, because the cookies in Canada now suck completely. The Girl Guides did not own the recipe and a couple of years ago Mr. Christie decided that the wanted a bigger cut of the price. The Girl Guides Canada had to find a new supplier. The new cookie suck. I buy them from my nieces because I have to but then through them out.

Just a side note, all though the Girl Guides claim not to be part of the Boy Scouts of American I believe they are and the Boy Scouts are just another vehicle for Mormon world domination.

Damn, I forgot my meds this morning.

  • Who is the group "Brenda" and do you have a url. I really liked the song and performance.

  • Daryl, Daryl, I'm with Karen. My brother, sister, Dad and I always fought for the chocolate ones.

Speaking of cookies. I can now get PC Decadent Chocolate Chip Cookies here in Hong Kong! WooHoo!

I'm back talking about food again. . . . and speaking of which . . . I miss Tim Hortons. Thanks Ross and Karen.

Another enjoyable show. I enjoyed the April W* I mean Anonymous Band. That was nice of them. Keep those awesome shows coming!

  • Brenda has no URL, the band existed for about a decade from 90-00.

It was the same 3 guys, myself on bass/vocals, for the entire duration of the band's existence. One day, the drummer just picked up his drums from our practice space and the band just sort of ceased to exist.

    That's the short version.

  • I would gave up government secrets for a never ending supply of those thin mints. Fortunately, I have no government secrets nor a girl scout anywhere near me.

By Blogger Aaron, at 10:51 PM

  • I have a ringworm story. I realize that I have now earned my freak wings.

I firmly believe that the thin mints are a kind of crack that is dispensed in front of our local hardware store each February. Frank buys many more boxes than he tells me about. Thin mints are also REALY GOOD when frozen.

  • Another one for the vault. And your PSA had us rolling on the floor, literally. And that's hard to do in a VW Passat, I tell ya. Shelly hit the nail on the head: I always toss a couple sleeves of Thin Mints in my freezer during GS Cookie Time and then I have a pleasant little treat when they're out of season.

  • Hey Guys,

Yet again another great podcast... I even listened to the music this time...imagine that... I think a drink or two makes the show a little looser and helps it flow a little more...not that this one didn't but it did seem a little stilted...just my opinion... I like the ad... and the associated story... won't get that in Canada... Your AmeriCanadian difference was bang on... Girl Guide cookies blow.. there are ALWAYS the damned vanilla ones left.. you're screwed if you come home from school late... your damned brothers eat the freakin' chocolate ones! Ok...sibling flash back there... ;-) ! I like the Samoas from the Girl Scouts. (http://www.littlebrowniebakers.com/cookies/cookiepages/samoas.html)
    Yummy coconuty goodness.

  • Thin Mints....I believe they have a half life of 100yrs. I had a partially open sleeve of some in my desk drawer at work for at lest 4 months. I got them out, wondered if it could kill me, tried one (o.k. maybe all of them) and lived to tell the story.

I don't think you need the freezer.

By Blogger Redboy, at 11:40 AM

  • I was going to try to remain impartial but screw it...the Thin Mints are hands down the best ones (I'm hope you're right about the shelf-life, Redboy, I'm hording some at home and work).

I'm curious about your ringworm story, Shelly. Then again, I'm not sure I want to be curious...

Kristin, I don't think we live near that institution but then again, they don't have windows in this place.

  • I feel so left out- we don't have girl guide cookies here, although we do have brownies & girl guides! I was a brownie, very briefly...

By Blogger Highlights from two years of blogging., at 5:05 AM

  • Sorry, but I'm going to have to side with Andy on this one. The Samoa coconut ones are the BEST!

Aaron, do you want us to send you some thin mints? Or better yet, we could freeze a box and give them to you in June!

Diane, no cookies? You've been robbed my friend!

    -Karen

By Blogger Zee And Zed, at 6:40 AM

  • Karen, It must be a Canadian thing...we don't have a lot of coconut in Canada... then again, just about anything this side of cardboard would beat those freakin' vanilla cookies the Girl Guides are forcing on Canadians.

    :)

By Blogger Andy Bilodeau, at 9:09 AM

  • I have to go with the Samoas as well. So. Damn. Good.

I'm having some shipped to me from a friend in Seattle. I'm not buying the crap cookies they sell here, no way.

The only way to make the cookies they sell in Canada edible is to freeze them and eat them with coffee.

By Blogger Dawn Z(ed), at 11:45 AM

  • And all this time, I thought you had to have good taste to listen to Zee and Zed.

I'm not afraid to admit that I love the Vanilla Girl Guide cookies. I'm sorry, but I will not appologize for that.

  • Hey Brad, you better get a PO Box out there in Alberta... You're gonna get a whole lot of cardboard...errr.. vanilla cookies once I tell folks you like them...

    ;-)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:41 PM

  • We should start a "Send Cookies Across the Pond" fund for Diane S.

    :-)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:42 PM

  • oh please! although I'm off sugar at the moment- maybe at Xmas?? :)

I think it maybe goes against the British ideal of politeness to be so brazenly selling- we'd rather have jumble sales or raffles or something. The again, maybe a cookie-selling venture is just too organised for our amateur organisations! xx

By Blogger Highlights from two years of blogging., at 5:13 AM

  • Jumble Sales?

Do we need to ask Lyndon?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:55 AM

  • I couldn't wait for Lyndon so I did 5 seconds of homework:

jumble sale n : a sale of donated articles [syn: rummage sale]

The Boy Scouts tend to do have jumble sales (aka garage sales) though as a young Cub Scout I did have to go door-to-door in our neighborhood and try to sell some coupon book or something like that in an effort to raise money for our troop. I didn't do so well. I couldn't even explain what it was we were selling.

  • Everybody loves the Thin Mints??? But I love the Caramel deLites there not a mandatory one but truely the best. Mmmmmm Caramel deLites! And they're
kosher too! Serving size 2 cookies, I think they mean 2 boxes.

By Blogger Jason, at 9:19 PM

  • I TOTALLY agree about the multiple Fappr maps. There should be just one. GS cookies are part of the US culture BIG time! My wife was accosted going to the mailbox one evening by a scout wanting her to buy cookies. The troops get about 30% profit on each box pre-sold and 50% for each box sold after the pre-sell deliveries. Cookie addicts will ask around the nearby GS districts looking for the lowest price. Here in the DFW area cookies are selling for $3.50 a box. Charles

  • Boy scouts in our area sell popcorn in the fall. At one time the quality was really good, but lately it's gone downhill. I quess the scouts are trying to get more profit out of the popcorn by using cheaper popcorn.

  • If you miss the old Christie-baked Girl Guide Cookies, Christie still bakes them, but under the aliases of Golden Oreos and Fudgee-Os.

Same great taste, same lovely trans-fats. Christie wouldn't DARE tamper with the formula...unlike Dare, which now bakes Girl Guide Cookies and is in the process of removing the trans-fats from the recipe.
